We're going a bit off the traditional vineyard path with this wine, discovering it in California's Central Valley, north and east of the Napa/Sonoma areas. The climate in this region produces grapes that are packed with flavor and rich in texture.
The dark straw color tips us off that the wine will have some tones of oak, and the consistent notes of toast and vanilla do come through both on the nose and on the tongue, along with aromas of pear and citrus. Concentrated flavors of apricot jam and peach preserves make this wine smooth and round on the palate, and very nicely balanced.
PUMPKIN RAVIOLI IN BUTTER SAUCE
A rich Chardonnay like this one pairs best with rich flavors and textures in food. Dishes containing late summer vegetables, like this ravioli or even butternut squash, will best complement the jammy, toasty essence of the wine.
